This Year – Celebrating Diversity!

This year our curriculum, Celebrating Diversity, focuses on the ways that diversity enriches our lives, and the challenges it brings to our world.  As Unitarian Universalists, we teach our children that the differences between us are things to celebrate. But all too often, the world shows them that those differences are “dangerous”. This year we will strive to show our kids that diversity enhances our understanding of ourselves and of our universe. Seeing the world from a different perspective is something to embrace, not shun.

But we must also deal with the reality that not everyone thinks that way. So we will spend time on the issue of Immigration  as a way to highlight the actions that UU’s are taking to help others gain a better understanding of those who are “different”. Knowledge truly is a powerful way to dispel the fear that comes with misunderstanding.

Our teens will also follow the theme with the curriculum Neighboring Faiths – a UU way of studying the other faith traditions that are present in our community. Only by making personal connection with members of other traditions can they genuinely see how their own values, and the values of Unitarian Universalism, can be explored in a truly “free and responsible search for truth and meaning”.
